We were not happy with the final outcome of our pondless waterfall so we re-did the whole thing. We have now changed it to a pond. We added solar lights which are hidden in the flower pots. 2000 gph pump. We are about 80% done. Still have to wait 24-48 hrs for pond to clear and let water filter for a while so we can add fish. Also need to add just a few more plants and dress up hill with some pine or mulch not sure what color we should go with yet. Hope you guys like. Will upload Final video 3 weeks from today.

It's a joy to have a pond in your own garden. It's a place where you can spend a quiet afternoon and reflect on the blessings you have received. It's something that can call to mind many wonderful memories of people you love. By the pond is also a great way to relax and just be happy for having that time away from the hustle and bustle of city life. However, if you're going to enjoy all of these, you should be willing to put in a little effort into maintaining your pond. And one thing you should always be particular about is maintaining the right oxygen levels in the water.

A pond that is left untended can easily become an eyesore, not to mention a source of unpleasant odors that nobody, not even yourself, will appreciate. These possibilities can be attributed to decomposing fish waste, algae and other organisms that are submerged in the water. The submerged plants do give off oxygen, but this is never enough to aerate the whole pond so that it remains healthy. However, when the right oxygen levels are maintained in the water, the problem can be avoided with the use of a pond aerator.

There are different types of aerators in the market today, and choosing one for your pond will require you to consider its depth. If it is no deeper than eight feet, you can choose a floating aerator which sprays oxygen into the water from just below the surface and dispels harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and ammonia. What's great about surface aerators is, they don't only keep the water healthy. They can also come in decorative shapes and add beauty to your garden view.

If your pond is deeper than eight feet, then you can consider getting a bottom aerator which functions similarly as the floating aerator, except that it pumps oxygen towards the bottom of the pond then pushes the bubbles up to the surface. These machines can work either on electricity or wind power, but since large and deep ponds are quite difficult to run on electricity, wind power of three to five miles per hour becomes more suitable.

Using an aerator will not only benefit your pond and your fish, but you and everyone else who will not have to inhale noxious gases that come from an unmaintained pond. An aerator will also allow you to cut back on other pond-cleansing products because the oxygen itself will work to maintain the natural balance in your pond so it stay clean and odor-free.
